Voegele averaged 7.3 digs per set, setting the program's second highest single-match mark since 2021

BROOKINGS S.D. -- Sophomore libero Ella Voegele totaled 22 digs in three sets Thursday night as St. Thomas volleyball fell to South Dakota State (17-25, 20-25, 21-25) at Frost Arena in Brookings, S.D.

Voegele averaged 7.3 digs per set, setting the program's second highest single-match mark since 2021 behind her 23-dig performance Sept. 21 against the Jackrabbits in St. Paul, Minn. Freshman Morgan Kealy led the Toms with 21 assists and added six digs and two kills.

RECAP
Sophomore Tezra Rudzitis started the match strong with three kills to give the Tommies a 4-3 lead. The Jackrabbits went on an 8-0 scoring run to take the lead, 14-7. A block by sophomore Megan Wetter and junior Libby Mattila, and a kill by both, helped the Tommies close the gap 17-16. SDSU took eight of the final nine points to take the set.

The second set started close with a 5-5 score after a block by senior Elllie Dammann and Rudzitis. Three kills, as well as an ace and kill by Wetter tightened the game for a 12-11 score. Three assists by Kealy set up a 3-0 scoring run with kills from sophomore Ava Wild, freshman Ellie Gustafson, and Wetter to keep the Tommies in the set with a 21-18 score. The Jackrabbits controlled the final points with a 4-2 run to finalize the set.

Four assists by Kealy helped four Tommies get a kill and keep the Tommies within three points to start the third set. The Jackrabbits maintained the lead, but three errors by SDSU and two kills by Rudzitis kept St. Thomas close with a 14-11 score. Six more assists by Kealy to five different teammates gave the Tommies a chance to stay in the game, but the Jackrabbits closed out the sweep 25-21.
