St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey alumna Megan Cornell has signed a contract with Swedish professional ice hockey club Färjestad for the 2022-23 season, official as of Tuesday.
A graduate transfer and part of the 2021-22 inaugural Division I season for St. Thomas women's hockey, Cornell scored one goal and posted six assists for seven points, while also tallying 108 blocks defensively. A native of Bloomington, Minn., Cornell set a season high in blocks with nine at Minnesota on Feb. 26. Over the course of the season, she posted nine five-plus block performances, including eight blocks at St. Cloud State on Feb. 6 and at Minnesota on Feb. 17.
"To finish my college hockey career at St. Thomas was an experience that I will always cherish," said Cornell. "It has been a dream to continue my hockey career after college, and I could not be more excited and grateful to play for Färjestad this next season."
Prior to St. Thomas, Cornell spent four years at Dartmouth, amassing two goals, five assists, and 64 blocks. Over a three-year span with Dartmouth (did not play in 2020-21 due to COVID-19), she skated in 83 games, and over the course of her collegiate hockey career Cornell appeared in 116 matches.
