St. Paul, Minn. - St. Thomas Football has announced its game schedule for 2022, its second season in Division I as a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and Pioneer Football League member.
The first game of the season features the Tommies traveling to Utah to face Southern Utah in a Thursday night tilt on Sept. 1.
The Tommies then return home for four of their next five games, with a bye week in that six-week span. St. Thomas begins its home schedule against Michigan Tech on Sept. 10 followed by an early bye week on Sept. 17.
The Purple begin their eight-game Pioneer Football League schedule on the road at Marist in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Oct. 1.
October features three home games (vs. Davidson, 10/8, vs. Drake 10/15 and vs. San Diego, 10/29). The Tommies will play their homecoming game against the Drake Bulldogs on Oct. 15.
Opportunity Knocks
Glenn Caruso starts his 15th season as St. Thomas head coach. The Tommies finished 2021, their first season in Division I, with a 7-3 overall record. Through his first 14 years patrolling the sideline for the Purple, he has posted a 133-24 (85%) record.
"As our coaching staff continues to work incredibly hard to elevate our program to new heights, the support from our fans and season-ticket holders is vital to provide our program with a true home field advantage," Caruso said.
"As we turn the page to the 2022 season, we are very fortunate to return a great core nucleus, and we are incredibly excited about our 32 new student-athletes joining our program from across the country, including the states of California, Texas and New Jersey, and 10 top players from our home state of Minnesota! Not only will this recruiting class complement our returning team, but I'm also positive you will enjoy watching these young men compete with Pride & Passion," Caruso added.
