Sioux Falls, S.D. - Freshman shortstop Brooke Ellestad of St. Thomas softball has been named the TicketSmarter Summit League Softball Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Ellestad becomes the first Tommie softball player to garner the conference's weekly honor in the team's first year competing in the Summit League.

Ellestad posted a batting average of .636 (7-11) with three runs scored, five RBI, a walk, and a stolen base at Western Illinois over the past weekend. The frosh infielder helped power the team to a series win at WIU, which served as both the first series against a conference opponent, and first series win against a Summit League foe.

In each of the three games, Ellestad finished with two or more base hits. She drove in two or more runs in two of the three games and scored a run in each game. Her efforts also helped the team to its first Summit League win on Saturday in a 13-5 effort at the Leathernecks.

This season, Ellestad leads the team in batting average (.427), slugging percentage (.663), runs scored (21), hits (38), RBI (21), triples (2), home runs (5), stolen bases (5), and total bases (59). Defensively, she leads the squad in assists with 53. In the Summit League, Ellestad ranks in the top three in batting average, slugging percentage, OBP (.447), OPS (1.110), and hits.
