Hartung scores for Women's Hockey in final game of season

Minneapolis, Minn. - St. Thomas women's hockey (5-27-1, 3-23-1 WCHA) saw its season end against No. 1 Minnesota (28-7-1, 21-6-1 WCHA) in the WCHA Playoffs on Saturday, in a 5-1 loss.
St. Thomas was outscored, 3-0, over the first 20 minutes of the game. Freshman Abby Promersberger had the highest shot total for the Toms in the first period, with two. The defense of St. Thomas had to contain 25 shots from the Gophers in the opening period of play.
The Tommies received a second period goal from junior Jenna Hartung with help from freshman Lauren Stenslie. It was the second goal of the campaign for Hartung and the seventh assist for Stenslie. Stenslie move into third on the team for assists this season. Hartung scored on one of just four shots for St. Thomas in the period.
Entering the third period down, 5-1, neither team was able to find the net over the final 20 minutes. For the second-straight match, St. Thomas totaled its highest shot output in the third period, finishing with nine.
Total, in the game, the Tommies recorded 27 defensive blocks from their skaters. Senior defender Megan Cornell recorded nine blocked shots, a season-high.
Freshman goaltender Saskia Maurer received the start in the team's final game of the season, playing over 54 minutes, and making 52 saves. Senior Eryn Cooley came into the match in relief and made three saves in a little over five minutes.
