Men's Hockey team notes for Alaska-Fairbanks -- Feb. 10
2/10/2022 10:59:00 AM | Men's Hockey
St. Thomas Men's Hockey (2-25-1 overall) travels to Alaska-Fairbanks (9-16-1) for non-conference games on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12. Both contests' opening puck drops are set for 10:07 p.m., Minnesota time.
St. Thomas will look to continue the positive surge it's making during the 2022 calendar year. After a 1-18 start to the season, the Purple closed the 2021 portion of their schedule with a 4-3 overtime loss to No. 15-ranked Michigan Tech. They followed on Jan. 2 with a 5-2 exhibition loss to the top-10 ranked Minnesota Gophers. The Toms are 1-6-1 in CCHA play since then, but have been competitive in virtually every game. Take away the recent 7-1, 5-1 losses to No. 1-ranked Minnesota State, and the Tommies have been outscored just 21-14 in their last seven other CCHA games.
The Toms have a 5-3 all-time record against Fairbanks. St. Thomas' last road trip in any sport to Alaska came 32 seasons ago, in 1988-89, when Tommie Hockey went 0-4 combined in games at Alaska-Anchorage and at Alaska-Fairbanks.Tommie coach Rico Blasi made multiple trips to Alaska-Fairbanks as a player and coach while at Miami (Ohio).
