Men's Hockey doesn't miss a beat in 3-0 road victory
2/25/2021 9:16:00 PM | Men's Hockey
St. Thomas Men's Hockey didn't let its 25-day layoff affect its game as it rolled to a 3-0 win Thursday night at Gustavus. Junior transfer Jacob Berger stopped all 19 shots in goal and three Tommies provided the offense.
The Purple (2-0) last played on Jan. 30 when it recorded a season-opening 5-1 defeat of St. Scholastica. Covid-related postponements around the conference forced the Toms to play a waiting game over the last three weekends.
St. Thomas took an early lead on the Gusties via Jack Vincent's unassisted goal in the opening 4:00. An early second-period power-play goal by Shayne Monahan pushed the lead to 2-0.
St. Thomas' Spencer Zwiener scored a goal with just one-tenth of a second left in the second period to make it 3-0 and close out the night's scoring.
Coach Jeff Boeser's Tommies continue a busy weekend with Friday's home MIAC clash against St. John's in Mendota Heights (7:30 p.m.). The Johnnies (4-2) handed Augsburg its first season loss with a 4-2 home-ice victory on Thursday night.
The Toms also play Saturday night at St. Mary's (7 p.m.), another team starting the weekend unbeaten.
