Haire leads Men's CC runs to another strong showing in Illinois race

Redshirt sophomore Zach Haire had a career-best time for 8,000 meters and placed 21st in a field of 259 runners to lead St. Thomas Men's Cross Country to sixth out of 31 Division I teams at Friday's Pink Classic hosted by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill.
Coach Pete Wareham's team put five runners in the top 42 -- all with times under 25:00, and all within a 17-second split. The Toms finished well ahead of Summit League schools South Dakota and North Dakota State. The Purple scored 169, not far behind Iowa (151) and Nebraska (160).
Wichita State (104) topped Eastern Illinois (125) for the team crown followed in the top eight by Indiana-Purdue (137), Iowa, Nebraska, St. Thomas and St. Louis (214).
Haire clocked 24:38 and was followed by teammates Morey Smith (32nd, 24:50), Charles Caven (37th, 24:52), Biel Wiel (39th, 24:53) and Colton Halla (42nd, 24:55). Harris Anderson (65th, 25:12), Keegan Sansone (111th, 25:29) and Adam McCollor (124th, 25:33) rounded out the top eight.
St. Thomas closes its cross country season Oct. 30 in Tulsa, Okla., at the Suimmit League Championships.
