Chris Olean gets 300th win as Baseball sweeps Eagles

St. Thomas' 11th-year baseball coach Chris Olean surpassed 300 victories (301-141-1) with the Purple on Monday with a 5-1, 3-1 sweep of UW-La Crosse.
Andrew Tri (2-0) struck out 11 and allowed one run, four hits, and no walks in a seven-inning, complete-game win in the opener.
Charlie Bartholomew had a two-run single and a bunt single to lead the Tommie offense.
Eagles starter Zach Pronschinske, an All-America and conference Pitcher of the Year in 2019, allowed three earned runs in 2.1 innings.
Game 2
The Tommies got another strong pitching performance in game two and used a pair of RBI triples in the bottom of the sixth inning en route to a 3-1 victory and a sweep.
Josh Thorp's RBI triple scored Dan Bolingberg, who walked. It was Thorp's fifth triple of the young season. Kyle Halverson followed with an RBI triple.
St. Thomas went down 1-2-3 in each of the first two innings but Avery Lehman's two-out, RBI double in the third inning scored Jordan Amundson, who reached on an error. St. Thomas had runners at second and third in the fifth inning, but a strikeout and ground out ended the threat.
UST junior Graham Laubscher allowed a walk, steal, and two ground outs for a first-inning run on no hits. He blanked La Crosse over the next five innings, and retired 12 in a row through the sixth.
Laubscher was replaced after a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh, and Shaun Falbo came on in relief and earned his second save as he coaxed a fly out and two strikeouts.
St. Thomas (6-1) is scheduled to play at Wartburg March 14 and 15 in single games.
