St. Thomas Women's Hockey saw its season end with a 4-1 loss to St. Mary's Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the MIAC Playoffs in Mendota Heights.
The Tommies (12-10-4) fell behind 2-0 in the opening period. Kate Winiecki scored midway through the second frame to pull the Toms within 2-1. But SMU scored an insurance goal early in the period and added an empty-net score.
The Cardinals (10-13-3) advance to play at top-seed Gustavus Saturday in the semifinal round.
Eryn Cooley stopped 37 of 40 shots for St. Thomas.
The Purple had five seniors close out their careers: Isabel Bianchi, Sarah Moy, Allison Parnell, Rachel Werdin and Anna Williams.
They helped build a 67-27-16 record in their era. Williams, Parnell, Moy, and Werdin each surpassed 100 games played.
