Women's Tennis drops MIAC match to Bennies, 6-3

Four singles matches were decided in third-set tie-breakers, and St. Benedict won three as it scored a 6-3 victory over St. Thomas in a late Friday night MIAC women's tennis match match at the University of Minnesota Baseline courts.
The Tommies (5-1 overall, 2-1 MIAC) won at first doubles with Taylor McLeod and Paige McLeod, 8-3. But both athletes lost tie-breakers in the third sets at Nos. 1-2 singles.
Natasha Hood won a 10-5 tie-break at No. 3 singles, and Sophia Dahlke won a close match at fourth singles. Helen Watkins lost 14-12 in a tie-break to decide fifth singles.
St. Benedict ended a nine-match losing streak to St. Thomas as it improved to 6-1 (1-0 MIAC).
"It was an awesome college match, congrats to St. Ben's," said St. Thomas coach Ken Cychosz. "That team has really improved and played a great match
"We almost had another miracle comeback. Our group of women never give up. The team was down six meet points yet was still in a position to win right until the end."
The Purple play Hamline Saturday (4 p.m.) at Lakeville Lifetime Fitness.
