Men's Hoops rides 3-ball past No. 8 Nebraska Wesleyan

11/23/2019 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

No. 15-ranked Tommie Men's Basketball rolled out a proven formula to offset a size disadvantage: Make a lot of outside shots.

Coach John Tauer's team worked that strategy effectively on Saturday at the University of Chicago tournament. It sank 19 shots from 3-point range -- one off the St. Thomas school record -- en route to an 82-63 win over No. 8-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan.

It was the Tommies' second double-digit margin of victory over the last eight months against the Prairie Wolves (4-1) -- the 2017-18 NCAA champion program.

Senior Tommy Anderson and junior Ryan Lindberg each sank five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points apiece to lead the St. Thomas win. Sophomore point guard Anders Nelson added 12 points, six boards, six assists and two steals. Sophomore Riley Miller sank three treys and closed with nine points.

St. Thomas led just 35-31 at halftime but made 11-of-20 treys and 10-of-10 free throws over the final half.

St. Thomas plays Sunday a(4 p.m.) in the championship game against DePauw (2-1), a 75-58 winner over Chicago.
