Volleyball gets MIAC title share, 25th season win

10/26/2019 12:00:00 AM | Volleyball

Senior Madie Kroehler had 16 kills to lead five Tommie players with double-digit kill totals in Saturday's 3-1 road win over Hamline in MIAC volleyball play. The No. 22-ranked Toms won 25-14, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18.

Coach Thanh Pham's Tommies (25-4 overall, 9-0 MIAC) have won 14 of their last 15 matches. They secured at least a tie for the conference regular-season championship with two matches to go, and reached 25 season victories.

This marks St. Thomas' 13th MIAC volleyball championship in the last 21 seasons, and 17th overall. The Purple have also won six conference playoff crowns.

St. Thomas closes the regular season with a Wednesday night home match against St. Ben's, and a Saturday road contest at Augsburg. The No. 12-ranked Bennies and No. 13-ranked Auggies share second place with two losses, and the Toms need one win to secure a first-round playoff bye and gain the top seed.

Fran Egan had 11 kills; Hannah Braun had 10 kills and five blocks; Selena Levendoski has 12 kills; Ellie Meyer had 29 digs; and Grace Anetipa had 55 assists.
