HAL-o-ween comes early for Men's Soccer

Halvor Houg has a knack for turning 0-0 soccer games purple... and leaving opponents singing the blues.
The St. Thomas junior defender did it again Friday night as his unassisted goal in the 75th minute stood up as the game's only score in a 1-0 Tommie victory.
Coach Jon Lowery's Tommies (10-3-3 overall, 8-1 MIAC) ran their win streak to nine games. They also clinched a first-round bye and top-two seed for the six-team MIAC playoffs.
They are also in control of part of their MIAC championship destiny: With a win Nov. 2 at St. Mary's, the Toms can lock up at least a share of the conference regular-season title.
Gustavus (6-1 MIAC) also controls its path -- the Gusties can claim the top seed and at least a share of the championship with three wins over the last eight days of the regular season. Gustavus edged St. Thomas 2-1 in the league opener, but the Toms have not lost since.
Troy Louwagie was in goal all 90 minutes and had three saves for St. Thomas.
Houg has scored the game's only goal five times in the last two seasons, all 1-0 St. Thomas victories. The Purple are 11-0-1 in games on Houg's career when he scores a goal, and he now has notched 13 in his last 36 games.
This season he also recorded the lone score in wins over Washington (Mo.) and Carleton; the game-winning goal in overtime at Augsburg; and a tying-goal in the 85th minute in an eventual 1-1 two-OT tie against Wartburg.
