Jade Spencer's putback shot with two seconds left lifted host Brooklyn College to a 78-77 win over visiting St. Thomas in non-conference men's basketball in New York City.

The Tommies (0-1) had used a 7-2 run in the final 2:22 to regain the lead. Elijah Hannah made one of two free throws with 14 seconds to play for a 77-76 lead. After a time out, Brooklyn (2-0) drove to the basket and missed a go-ahead shot, but Spencer was in position and made the rebound shot with :01.8 remaining.

St. Thomas had several positives for a first game but didn't get enough shots to fall. The Toms made just 12-of-38 from 3-point range, and were outscored 16-9 at the foul line. Turnovers (19-18) and rebounds (43-40) were nearly even, with the hosts having a slight edge.

Michael Hannon scored 15 points; Burt Hedstrom had 12 points and eight rebounds; Ryan Lindberg had 12 points and four assists; and freshmen Anders Nelson (nine) and Riley Miller (seven) also contributed scoring off the bench. Hannah added five points, five boards and four assists.

Noah Shy scored a game-high 22 points in 37 minutes for Brooklyn.

St. Thomas plays Saturday at Emerson (Mass.).
