11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM | Men's Soccer
For the third year in a row, Tommie Men's Soccer is headed into the NCAA playoff round of 16.
The Toms (16-3-2) scored just 36 seconds into play Sunday en route to a 5-0 home victory over UW-Superior at South Field.
Sunday's contest was in sharp contrast to St. Thomas' 2017 NCAA playoff win over Superior that ended with a 4-3 score.
Sophomore Halver Houg scored twice in the game's first 21 minutes and scored three of the team's five goals in a 2-0 weekend. Senior Aidan Hogan had five saves en route to his 30th career shutout and 51st career victory in goal. Eight different Toms scored points, including goals by Lucas Horton, Jake Amey and Jacob Makela.
The five goals were the most ever for a Tommie team in an NCAA playoff contest.
In ending the Yellowjackets' 20-game unbeaten streak (19-0-1), St. Thomas continued it recent postseason success. St. Thomas improved to a combined 13-2-1 in MIAC and NCAA playoff competition over the last three seasons (10-0-1 at home).
Coach Jon Lowery's Toms will learn their next opponent and game location in the next 15 hours.
