Women's Hoops alone in first place, extends streaks

Junior center Hannah Spaulding had 23 points, eight rebounds and seven blocks to lead No. 13-ranked St. Thomas to a 77=52 road win over St. Ben's on Saturday in MIAC women's basketball play in St. Joseph.

The Tommies (15-2 overall, 10-0 MIAC) sank nine treys and had a 42-24 rebounding advantage as they knocked the Blazers out of a share of the MIAC lead.

St. Thomas has won 44 consecutive games against conference opponents and 25 in a row on the road.

St. Ben's (15-2, 9-1) trailed 42-28 at halftime but cut the deficit to 47-42 in the third quarter. St. Thomas answered with a 23-5 run to push the lead to 23 points midway through the final quarter.

Lucia Renikoff had 14 points, and Lauren Fischer and Elsa Anderson each scored 10.

The Toms play third-place Gustavus at home Wednesday night.
