Women's Soccer gains tough road win

ST. PETER, Minn. - The No. 21-ranked Tommie women topped the Gusties 2-0, Saturday in St. Peter. Brielle Bierman and Mallory DeBoom scored in the 40th and 78th minutes. Freshman Katie Lynn stayed unbeaten in goal with another shutout as she collected five saves.
With the win, the Tommies improve to 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the MIAC, while the Gusties drop to 5-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
The Tommies came out on top in shots (11-7) and shots on goal (7-5), while Gustavus finished with a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Bierman scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 40th minute for her second of the season. DeBoom followed midway through the second half to score her sixth of the year. She has now scored a goal in five of the last six games, and tallied at least a point in six of the last seven.
St. Thomas is now 3-0-0 this season when both Bierman and DeBoom earn a point and 9-0-0 over the past three years.
In goal, freshman goalkeeper Katie Lynn made all five saves on the afternoon in her fifth shutout of the season. She has yet to allow a goal in her collegiate career.
The Tommies will be back in action on Wednesday night for a break from MIAC play when they travel to Waverly, Iowa to take on Wartburg College. That game is set for a 7:00 pm start.
