ST. PAUL – Freshmen Jack Christensen scored his first career goal to secure a 1-1 tie for the St. Thomas men's hockey team at the Xcel Energy Center on Hockey Day Minnesota Saturday.  With the tie, the Tommies move to 8-5-4 on the year, while the Blue Devils move to 9-8-2.

With just 2:31 left in the first period, Colton Brausen put the Blue Devils in front 1-0 with his seventh goal of the year.  The goal came with assists from Riley Colvard and Derek Sand to head into the second.

It took nearly all of the second period for the Tommies to tie the game up.  Christensen scored his first goal in the Purple and Gray with just 32 seconds remaining in the second to tie the game 1-1.  Cullen Willox assisted on the score and the two teams went to the final frame all even.

Although there were a total of five power play chances throughout the third period, neither team could capitalize and they went to overtime. In the extra period, the Tommies outshot the Blue Devils 5-1, but could not get one to go, as the game ended in the 1-1 tie.

On the afternoon, St. Thomas finished with a 37-25 shot advantage, outshooting Stout in each period, including the overtime.  Combined, the two teams went 0-for-10 on the power play.  The Tommies could not convert on four chances, while the Blue Devils were held scoreless on six opportunities.

In net, Ben Myers tallied 24 saves for the Tommies, while Tommi Ahlgren amassed 36 stops for UW-Stout.

St. Thomas will be back on the ice on Friday night when the Johnnies come to town for a 7:30 pm start at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
