Softball, W. Tennis have Friday playoff tests

Three Tommie teams are competing Friday, including softball and women's tennis in MIAC postseason play:
Softball
St. Thomas (32-8) opens MIAC playoff action Friday at Bethel in the four-team, double-elimination tournament.
UST is in the playoffs for the 12th time in the 12-year history of the event and is 11-for-11 in team championships and a 35-1 all-time record.
The Tommies have a five-game winning streak and are tied for third in the conference and will face top-seed Bethel at 3 p.m., and play against Saturday.

Women's Tennis
St. Thomas (16-2) and Carleton (14-3) meet at 4 p.m. Friday at Lakeville Lifetime Tennis in the semifinal round of the MIAC playoffs. Top-seed Gustavus is host to St. Olaf at 4:30 in St. Peter.
Friday's winners play Sunday for the playoff crown and NCAA tournament berth, hosted by the best remaining seed.
The Tommies edged the Knights 5-4 three weeks ago in St. Paul at SPA outdoor courts. Carleton lost 5-4 to MIAC champion Gustavus; UST lost to the Gusties 6-3.

Baseball
St. Thomas (19-13-1) plays No. 11-ranked Wartburg (30-9) Friday at 7 p.m., at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo, Iowa. On Thursday, UST tied UW-Superior 4-4 in a non-conference game halted by darkness after 14 innings.
The Tommies play an MIAC doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. at home aganst Augsburg.
