Gerhartz leads Men's CC at MIAC meet

Senior Jacob Gerhartz placed fourth and freshman Ephraim Bird took 14th as No. 33-ranked St. Thomas took fourth out of 11 teams at Saturday's MIAC Championships at St. Paul's Como Golf Course.
St. Olaf was an easy victor with 34 points. Just 13 points separated runner-up St. John's (96), Carleton (99), UST (107) and Gustavus (109).
Gerhartz clossed fourth out of 235 runners in a time of 25:54, 18 seconds behind winner Jake Campbell of St. Olaf. Gerhartz improved from 19th to 10th to fourth in his three career MIAC CC meets.
Bird clocked 26:40 and was the lone freshman to finish in the top 27. He joined Gerhartz on the All-MIAC list (top 15).
UST had a tight pack for its 3-4-5-6 runners: seniors Dylan Baumann (32nd, 27:21); freshmen Parker Rosenau (34th, 27:24) and Sam Ivanecky (35th, 27:24) and junior Trevor Smith (36th, 27:25).
UST had nine others finish in the top 75:
- freshman Seth Glidewell was 43rd (27:38);
- soph Tim Van Laarhoven was 46th (27:40);
- senior Tyler Krpan was 50th (27:45);
- senior Nick Jackson took 53rd (27:52);
- soph Andrew Fritz placed 60th (28:00);
- junior Adam Brandt took 61st (28:03);
- soph Adam Berkowitz was 64th (28:08);
- freshman Daniel Mahota took 67th (28:12);
- freshman Zach Glasgow took 75th (28:22).
St. Thomas competes Nov. 14 in the NCAA regional race in Pella, Iowa.
