Women's CC second of 12 at Conf. meet

Senior Emily Gapinski placed fifth and junior Bridget McGivern took 11th to lead eight Tommies in the top 33 as No.-23 ranked St. Thomas Women's Cross Country took second out of 12 teams at the MIAC Championships at St. Paul's Como Golf Course.
No. 14-ranked Carleton scored 61 points and won its third consecutive team title with an 11-point cushion. The Toms improved one spot from last season and scored 72 points.
St. Olaf (97), St. Ben's (107) and Macalester (129) placed 3-4-5.
Gapinski clocked 22:54 to take fifth out of 244 runners. An NCAA runner-up in the outdoor 1,500 last May, Gapinski improved to fifth after taking 47th, 58th and 25th in her first three career MIAC CC meets.
McGivern joined her on the All-MIAC group (top 15) as she took 11th place in 23:16. She improved from 43rd as a freshman to 34th as a sophomore to 11th this fall.
Junior Alex Fossum placed 17th (23:26), senior Megan Terukina was 19th (23:35), junior Kayla Janto placed 20th, senior Diane Hubbell placed 27th (24:08), sophomore Megan Gossfeld took 35th (24:21), and sophomore Mel Marsh was 36th (24:23).
Janto has improved from 83rd to 38th to 20th in her three career conference meets.
Hubbell climbed from 164th to 77th to 60th to 27th in her four career meets.
The Toms compete Nov. 14 at the NCAA regional meet in Pella, Iowa.
