Milestone day for WBB's Weiers in home victory

Senior Maggie Weiers had 22 points and nine rebounds and No. 6-ranked St. Thomas used a 28-9 run on either side of halftime en route to Saturday's 74-48 MIAC women's basketball win over visiting Concordia-Moorhead.
A fifth-year senior playing in her 104th career game, Weiers moved into second place in career rebounding at UST with 729 to go with 1,200 points.
Jenna Dockter had nine assists and 11 points; Katie Stone had 10 points and four assists; and Elaine Warner had eight points and five boards off the bench.
UST (13-0 overall, 6-0 MIAC) shot 50 percent on the game (30-of-60), had only nine turnovers and compiled a 39-22 advantage in rebounds.
St. Thomas holds a two-game lead one third into the 18-game MIAC season ahead of the second-place Cobbers and Gustavus.
The Cobbers (8-5, 4-2) had a three-game winning streak snapped. Alley Fisher had 11 points and Hannah Jeske had six boards for CC, which shot only 33 percent from the floor.
Concordia used a 17-3 run to tie the game 25-25 with 2:20 to play in the first half. But UST ended the half on a 6-0 run and started the sexcond half on a 22-9 run.
UST's 13-0 start is the second best in program history since the 1991-92 team began 27-0.
The Toms play Wednesay at St. Catherine and Saturday at Hamline.
