Volleyball drops Sat. match, now 3-3

No. 9-ranked St. Thomas dropped a 3-1 decision to UW-Eau Claire Saturday at the Augsburg Invitational. The Toms (3-3) fell 25-18, 11-25, 25-23, 25-21.
In the pivotal third set wit the match tied 1-1, UST led 19-18 but was unable to close out th set victory.
Jill Greenfield had 17 kills, 20 digs and three aces; Kelly Foley had 13 kills and hit .440; Maddie Reese had 49 assists and 12 digs; Whitney Abrahamson had 29 digs; and Taylor Lewis had 11 digs and six kills.
The Tommies travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa next Friday and Satirday Sept. 12-13 for four matches in the Cornell tournament.
Friday Story
St. Thomas Volleyball won both matches Friday on day one of the Augsburg Invitational. The No. 9-ranked Tommies hit .348 and topped UW-LaCrosse, 25-23, 25-20, 25-7, and hit .349 and beat Bethany Lutheran, 25-16, 25-10, 25-16.
UST (3-2) plays Saturday at 2 p.m. against UW-Eau Claire to close the tourney.
Against Bethany Lutheran, Kelly Biermann had 12 kills and hit .638; Kelly Foley hit .328 and had 10 kills; Jill Greenfield had 13 digs and four aces; Whitmey Abrahamson had 14 digs; and Maddie Reece had 37 assists and three aces.
Against LaCrosse, Sara Atkinson had nine kills and hit .500; Greenfield had nine kills and nine digs; Foley had eight kills; Abrahamson had 13 digs; and Reece had four aces and 33 assists.
