McConachie's big day lifts WSC past SMU

The St. Thomas women's soccer team shut out Saint Mary's University by the score of 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at South Field. The Tommies controlled the game from start to finish and improve to 3-4-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the MIAC, while the Cardinals drop to 3-5-1 overall and 0-3-0 in league play.

Senior Morgan McConachie kicked off the scoring in the eighth minute with her second goal of the season from the middle of the box. McConachie received an assist from fellow senior Kelsie Sargent on the goal, which gave the Tommies a quick 1-0 lead out of the gate.

Freshman Kari Solheim followed with her first collegiate goal nearly eight minutes later at the 15:00 mark. McConachie turned from scorer to helper on the goal, as she assisted Solheim to give UST a 2-0 advantage midway through the first half.

Just two minutes later, McConachie delivered again to put St. Thomas on top 3-0 prior to the intermission. Taylor Skorik assisted McConachie on the goal.

The final goal of the afternoon came from senior Taylor Sabrowski. Sabrowski's first goal of the season came nearly six minutes into the second half. Racking up the assist on the goal was McConachie, to round out a six-point performance for the senior with two goals and two assists.

Tommie goalkeeper Tarynn Theilig was awarded the win in a two-save effort. Hadley Ryan also saw her first action of the season, finishing the final 20 minutes of the shutout. Saint Mary's keeper Miranda Helling was tagged with the loss after recording five saves and allowing four goals.

St. Thomas will be back in action again on Wednesday, Oct. 1st when it hosts Bethel at 4:00 p.m., on South Field.
