Volleyball wins two on Saturday, 6-4 on year

No. 16-ranked Tommie Volleyball scored a pair of 3-0 wins on Saturday at the Cornell College Invite in Mount Vernon, Iowa. UST topped Loras and Wartburg to close 3-1 on the weekend and move to 6-4 on the season.
UST, Wartburg and Cornell all went 3-1.
Jill Greenfield and Kelly Foley were named to the all-tournament team. In four weekend matches, Greenfield had 45 kills, 55 digs and five aces, and Foley had 39 kills and nine blocks; Taylor Lewis had 42 kills and 36 assists; Whitney Abrahamson had 75 digs; and Maddie Reese had 97 assists, four aces and 39 digs.
St. Thomas starts conference play and has its home opener Wednesday Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. against St. Mary's.

Friday story
St. Thomas splt two matches Friday in the Cornell (Iowa) tournament. UST scored a 3-0 win over Northwestern-St. Paul to open play, via a 25-22, 25-13, 25-14 score.
The Tommies (4-4) played again at 8:45 against the host Cornell Rams. After winning the first game 25-21, UST lost the final three 25-17, 28-26, 25-15. The loss snaped the Tommies' 26-match win strek against Iowa colleges and universities dating back to October 2009.
The Toms play Saturday matches against Iowa Conference teams Loras and Wartburg.
