Women's soccer falls 1-0 in season finale

MINNEAPOLIS – The St. Thomas women's soccer team dropped its final game of the regular season by the final score of 1-0 to Augsburg on Saturday night at Edor Nelson Field.
The two teams needed overtime to decide a winner, where Olivia Muyres buried the game-winner just 31 seconds into the extra frame. With the loss, St. Thomas finishes the regular season 8-7-3 overall and 6-4-1 in the MIAC. Augsburg concludes the year 14-4-0 overall and 9-2-0 in league play.
After the two squads played to a scoreless tie through the first 90 minutes of the contest, Augsburg's Marta Anderson served the ball into the box, where Muyres put it away to give her team the 1-0 overtime win just 30 seconds into the extra frame.
Augsburg held the shot advantage for the evening, outshooting the Tommies 21-11. The Auggies also held the edge in shots on goal by the count of 12-8.
Tommie goalkeeper Tarynn Theilig made 11 saves on the night and drops to 8-7-3 on the year. Her counterpart, Marissa Guillou made eight saves in the shutout and improves to 10-3-0.
St. Thomas received the fifth seed in the MIAC Playoffs and will travel to Collegeville, Minn. The Tommies will take on Saint Benedict in the quarterfinals at Saint John's Field on Tuesday, Nov. 4th. That game is set for a 2:00 p.m., kickoff.
