Senior guard Erik Tengwall scored 14 of his career-high 25 points in the second half and the No. 10-ranked Tommies (13-3 overall, 10-1 MIAC) rallied from a 14-point defecit to top the visiting Auggies (11-5, 7-4), 82-70, in Wednesday night's MIAC men's basketball at Schoenecker Arena.

UST's Conner Nord had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Zach Riedeman and Marcus Alipate each had 13 points.

Augsburg made 15 of its first 17 shots and had just two turnovers as it built a 35-21 lead with 5:40 to go in the first half. UST closed the first half on a 10-3 run to pull within 42-37 at halftime.

After a quick Auggie basket, six Tommies scored during a 20-6 run that built a 57-50 lead with 12:41 to play. Augsburg got into foul trouble and never got closer than four the rest of the game.

St. Thomas rose a 33-25 rebounding advantage and had just nine turnovers. Augsburg still shot 67 percent on the game but made only 8-of-19 free throws and was outscored 21-6 from 3-point range.

UST kept its one-game lead on second-place St. Olaf, a winner over archrival Carleton.

The Toms have a bye on Saturday and plays at home next Wednesday against Macalester.
