Mary Allen's comeback, three-set win at second singles sparked the Tommie women's tennis team to a 5-3 upset of top-seed St. Catherine in Saturday's MIAC Playoff semifinals in St. Peter. UST avenged a 6-3 loss to the Wildcats from last month and handed SCU its first loss to an MIAC foe in 11 matches this spring.
The fourth-seeded Toms were unable to sustain their momentum and dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 2-seed Carleton in Saturday night's finals. The Tommies closed the season 13-6 while Carleton takes the MIAC's automatic berth into the NCAA playoffs.
Against No. 30-ranked St. Catherine, UST lost at first and third doubles but roared back to win at Nos. 2-3-4-5 singles to secure the victory. Kara Lefsrud and Bridget Noack won at second doubles and Nos. 3-4 singles. UST avenged a 6-3 loss to the Wildcats from last month. Allen won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at second singles.
