W. Hockey ends season with 2-1 playoff loss

Kelsey Vandergrift scored the go-ahead goal at 11:46 of period three as the third-seed Cobbers (13-7-5) edged the second-seeded Tommies (14-8-2), 2-1, in Thursday night's MIAC women's hockey playoff game on UST's home ice in Mendota Heights. Concordia, which never trailed, outshot St. Thomas 34-24 as it advances to Saturday's finals at No. 2-ranked and top-seed Gustavus. CC's freshman Madison Denny had 23 saves in goal and Lauren Riley scored the game's first goal. Alise Riedel had 32 saves and Megan Juricko had a power-play goal for the Tommies. It was the final collegiate game for UST's lone senior, Korinne O'Connor, who played in 101 career games over four seasons.
