W. Hockey surprises No. 8-ranked Falcons, 3-1

Alise Riedel stopped 31 of 32 shots and the Tommies scored twice early in period three to surprise No. 8-ranked UW-River Falls, 3-1, in non-conference women's hockey play Wednesday night at River Falls.
Morgan Olson's power-play goal and Lauren Mumm's unassisted goal 1:44 apart early in the final frame put the Toms ahead 3-1. It was the first goal of the season for Mumm, a sophomore.
Korinne O'Connor scored UST's first goal on a second-period power play to knot the score 1-1.
St. Thomas (12-7-2) is assured of a .500 or bettr finish for the 12th consecutive season. It was the Tommies' first win this season over a ramnked teak, as they came in 0-5-1 with five defeats by just eight goals.
UST plays Augsburg this weekend -- Saturday night in Mineapolis and Sunday at 1 p.m. on home ice.
