Slow start costly as Men's Hockey falls 4-3

The visiting St. Thomas men's hockey team dropped a 4-3 decision at UW-Eau Claire in Friday night non-conference play across the border.
Both teams were playing their first games in 27 days. The Toms (8-6) allowed a short-handed goal -- its first of the season -- and two power-play goals and couldn't recover from an early 3-0 deficit. The Blugolds (9-5) killed off four of UST's five power-plays and converted one into a short-handed goal.
UST scored three goals in the first 10:00 of the third period to climb back within 4-3 but was unable to notch the equalizer. Travis Baker, Matt Lipinski and Chris Hickey scored goals and five others had one assist for the Toms.
St. Thomas, which plays Saturday night at UW-River Falls, has played four consecutive one-goal games.
