Charles Bruchu's two-out bases-loaded triple broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and propelled the No. 1-ranked Tommie baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Carleton in game one of Saturday's MIAC doubleheader at Koch Diamond.
UST won the nightcap 9-4 to complete the sweep. St. Thomas (15-1 overall, 2-0 MIAC) ran its winning streak to 13 games.
Sophomore LHP Bryce Gapinski allowed one run, seven hits and one walk in the complete-game win in the opener. Sophomore RHP John Licht allowed three earned runs in five innings for the win in game two.
Bruchu drove in the game's first run in the second inning with a single that followed Drew Cremisino's triple to right field.
Carleton (4-15, 0-2) tied the game 1-1 in the fourth on a single, sac bunt and two-out double by Clay Parrish.
In the Tommie sixth, Matt Olson walked and Tom Wippler and Roy Larson had infield hits to load the bases. Bruchu's triple scored three runs and put UST ahead 4-1.
Cremisino had two hits and two runs scored.
The Knights loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but Gapinski got a game-ending double-play grounder.
In game two, Larson's two-run homer in the third inning broke a 3-3 tie. He added an RBI single in the sixth inning. Matt McQuillan went 3-for-4 to lead an 11-hit attack.
The Tommies are home Wednesday to play St. John's in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
