Softball sweeps Wildcats; Wright ties record

Senior Marta Radcliffe pitched 7 2-3 hitless innings on the day with 13 strikeouts and retired 22 of the 23 batters she faced to lead No. 21-ranked St. Thomas to a 9-2, 6-0 sweep of St. Catherine. Saturday's MIAC twinbill was played at the Toms' South Field.

The Tommies (24-6 overall, 11-1 MIAC) have won 22 of their last 24 games this season and 21 of their last 22 vs. MIACc opponents.

Radcliffe hit a three-run homer in the first inning of game two. She walked one batter in pitching four shutout innings to start game two. She came back in relief with one out and the bases loaded in the sixth inning and got a force out grounder and a strikeout to preserve the shutout.

Sydney Marquardt's second-inning grand slam helped UST build a 6-0 lead in game one. Kimmy Hassel hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning.

Radcliffe retired SCU's first nine batters with six strikeouts and left with a 6-0 lead.

Alison Wright singled in the first inning of game one and singled in the first inning of game two. She now has 239 career hits to tie the MIAC record of 239 set in 2005 by ex-Tommie Michelle Wong.

The Toms play Tuesday at Bethel and return home Thursday to face St. Olaf.
