MBB season ends with 73-71 loss in NCAAs

No. 24-ranked Anderson outscored the sixth-ranked Tommies 28-6 at the foul line and held on to post a 73-71 first-round win Friday night in NCAA men's basketball playoff action in Kenosha, Wis.
Junor guard Alex Healy had a career-high 26 points for St. Thomas (23-4), which lost its last two games of the season.
St. Thomas, which led 33-32 at hallftime, only attempted nine free throws to 33 for Anderson. The Tommies shot 44% from the floor but made just 5-of-23 from 3-point range. Tommy Hannon had 11 points and Joe Scott and Tyler Nicolai each scored nine points.
The Ravens (23-5) got 67 of their 73 points from starters. They converted 28-of-33 at the foul line. Ty Riddle made four 3-pointers in the second half and scored a team-high 21 points, and center Brock Morrison had 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Anderson plays Saturday night against the Carthage-Aurora winner.
The game was tied 56-56 before the Ravens sank six consecutive free throws. Anderson broke to a 68-61 lead with 1:30 to go. UST closed with a 10-4 run and pulled within 72-71 with four seconds left. After the Ravens made one of two free throws with :03 remaining, Nicolai's half-court shot just missed at the final horn.
It was the final games for three UST seniors -- Scott, Sam Eicher and Josh Peltier.
The MIAC went 0-for-2 as Carleton lost 59-58 on two late free throws at UW-Stevens Point.
