Marta Radcliffe helps Softball sweep Bethel

Junion RHP Marta Radcliffe allowed no earned runs and just two hits with 17 strikeouts in 9 2-3 innings on the day to lead No. 4-ranked St. Thomas to an 8-1 and 5-0 sweep of Bethel 8-1 in Tuesday's MIAC softball twinbill on the Tommies' campus.
Radcliffe is now 7-0 in a seven-day stretch, including five MIAC wins for the Tommies (22-2 overall, 6-0 MIAC). The Toms outhit Bethel (10-10, 2-2) on the day by a 20-5 margin.
Colleen Owen went 4-for-7 on the day, Kaitlyn Wightman had a homer among her three hits, and Alison Wright reached base in six of seven plate appearances, including four walks.
In game two, Radcliffe came on with one out and two on in the first and retired all 11 batters she faced. Christy Gries pitched the final three innings.
Wightman hit a solo homer in the third and Colleen Owen had an RBI single in the first. In the fourth, Owen doubled and Sydney Marquardt homered.
Wright had a pair of RBI hits and two walks in four at-bats in game one. She had her hitting streak end at 34 in game two. She lined hard to the shortstop in the first; walked in the third, was intentionally walked in the fourth and was on deck when UST made its last out in the sixth.
St. Thomas is home again for an MIAC doubleheader on Wednesday to face St. Ben's (4 p.m.).
