Softball pounds 31 hits in sweep of Macalester

Alison Wright had three hits on the day and extended her hitting streak to 31 games and Missy Bruggeman had five hits to lead No. 4-ranked St. Thomas to a 10-1, 8-2 sweep of visiting Macalester in MIAC softball play Friday on the South Field.
Morgan Betker, Kaitlyn Wightman and Kallie Samuelson each had four hits in the twinbill as UST pounded 31 hits on the day.
The Tommie women (18-2 overall, 2-0 MIAC) ran their home-field win streak to 35 and their conference win streak to 59. UST raised its season batting average to .412.
St. Thomas is in the midst of a 12-game schedule in an eight-day stretch. Saturday the Toms play at Hamline (1 p.m.), and weather permitting are scheduled to play Sunday at St. Olaf (1 p.m.), then return home to play Bethel and St. Ben's on Tuesday and Wednesday.
In game one, Marta Radcliffe (9-2) pitched five innings and struck out eight as she allowed two hits, no walks and one run. In game two, freshman Angela Phillips (6-0) allowed three hits and one run in six innings.
