Softball starts 2-0 in MIAC Playoffs

Senior Maria Bye had a three-hit shutout in the opener and hit her 36th career home run in game two to help the No. 3-ranked Tommie softball team advance to Sunday's championship round of the MIAC Tournament with a pair of eight-run victories on Saturday. Bye ran her scoreless streak to 33 innings.
The top-seed Tommies topped fourth-seed Augsburg 8-0 in five innings and beat third-seed Hamline 10-2 in six innings. St. Thomas (39-3) ran its MIAC win streak to 56 games and improved to 14-0 all-time in the MIAC softball playoffs.
The Toms play at 1:15 p.m. Sunday against the Hamline-Augsburg winner. That team must beat UST twice Sunday to win the double-elimination tourney and claim the NCAA automatic playoff berth. Alison Wright hit a two-run homer in game one and had three hits in the day. Kallie Samuelson had an RBI double in game one and a two-run homer in game two. Olivia Graham had three hits on the day and Steph Moores reached in five of six at-bats.
Marta Radcliffe fanned nine with no walks and allowed just three hits and two runs in the game-two win.
