Erik Olson helps Baseball get another sweep

Junior Erik Olson got a win and a save in two solid relief performances and senior Chris Bullis had two clutch RBI hits in a 4-for-7 day as the No. 17-ranked Tommie baseball team scored a 4-1, 5-2 MIAC sweep Thursday over Augsburg at Minneapolis' Parade Stadium.
The Tommies (25-7 overall, 14-2 MIAC) secured a spot in the MIAC playoffs for the ninth time in the nine-year history of the event. UST can claim the playoff top seed and a share of the MIAC championship with two wins in its last four games.
Junior Dan Leslie, who had three hits on the day, had a two-run double in game one that built a 4-0 lead. Leslie doubled with two outs and scored the tying run in the third inning of game two. Bullis added a pair of two-out RBI singles to help the Toms pull away.
Olson came on in game one with a 4-0 lead after two four-pitch walks. The Auggies loaded the bases with none out on a catcher interference call, but a sacrifice fly and a double-play grounder kept a three-run lead.
Olson came on in the third inning of game two with the score knotted 1-1. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with the Toms leading just 3-2. In game two, the Auggies (18-18, 8-8) left 11 on base, hit into three double plays and had a runner tagged out between third and home.
In game one, the Tommies survived one runner called out at home, two tagged out at third, and one out at second. In game two, UST also had a runner picked off second with none out.
In four road wins in a three-day span, Tommie pitchers allowed just three earned runs in 28 innings and the infielders committed no errors and turned six double plays.
Tom Wippler had two hits in game one, and Tim Kahle and Matt Olson had two hits each in game two.
The Tommies are home Saturday to face Carleton, then close the regular season Monday at Concordia-Moorhead.
