Women's Hoops falls 62-59, ends season

The St. Thomas women's basketball team rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit but fell 62-59 to the University of Chicago in Friday's NCAA Division III first-round playoff game in Stevens Point, Wis.
Alex Leach had 17 points for the Maroors (21-5) who play in Saturday night's second-round game.
UST (20-8) led 11-4 early but eventually fell behind 42-31 at halftime. UST allowed just 20 second-half points and pulled within 62-59 on Chelsea Wirtz' 3-pointer with 1;00 to go. But UST missed three free throws in the last minute and could get the tying points.
For the Tommies, making their first NCAA playoff appearance in seven seasons, Sheena Porter Wrzos had 16 points and five steals, Jessica Katch had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists, DeJernett Prioleau had 12 rebounds and Carrie Embree had nine points and 10 rebounds. UST hit nine treys but made only 14-of-23 at the line and 32% from the field.
