Softball now 8-0, Tschida gets win No. 499

Kaitlyn Wightman went 4-for-4 and drove in six runs as No. 4-ranked St. Thomas scored a 10-5 victory over No. 11-ranked SUNY-Plattsburgh Sunday night at the Sun West Tournament in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
The win for St. Thomas (8-0) was No. 499 in the 14-year coaching career of John Tschida. It also ran the Toms' regular-season unbeaten streak to 40. Tschda will go for 500 on Monday afternoon and evening with games vs. Wesleyan (Conn.) and host Chapman.
In a 4-0 start to the tournament, including wins over three nationally-ranked teams, UST is batting .387 with eight doubles and eight home runs.
Earlier Sunday, UST topped Pitt-Bradford 10-2 in five innings as Alison Wright and Angie Steil homered and Morgan Betker had two doubles. UST outhit Bradford 13-4.
Wightman's three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning broke a 3-3 tie. UST outhit Plattsburgh 13-4 but allowed eight walks. Plattsburgh placed fourth in the nation last season.
