Women's Hoops win locks up playoff berth

Carrie Embree had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Jessica Katch added 16 points and 11 rebounds as the first-place Tommies (14-5 overall, 13-3 MIAC) pulled away in the second half to top the visiting Scots (7-12, 6-10) in MIAC women's basketball play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
Katch had six points to fuel a 17-4 run that built a 54-38 lead.
The Tommies shot 50% from the field, made 17-of-22 foul shots and had a 40-28 rebounding advantage to offset 23 turnovers. They clinched an MIAC playoff berth with six game left to go. They remain in a tie for the MIAC lead with St. Benedict, two games ahead of third-place Concordia and Gustavus (11-5 each).
UST has won 10 of its last 12 games, improved to 7-1 at home this season, and secured a winning season record.
Ann Baltzer had 18 points for the Scots.
The Tommies play Wednesday night at home vs. Bethel.
