Sophomore guard Joe Scott scored 16 of his game-high 19 points in the first 14:00 as the 19th-ranked Tommies (17-3 overall, 13-2 MIAC) cruised past the visiting Scots (6-13, 4-10) in MIAC men's basketball play Monday night at UST's Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies have won seven in a row and 11 of their last 12. They avenged one of their two season losses, ran their MIAC home-court win streak to 30, and secured a conference playoff berth for the 20th time in 21 seasons.

St. Thomas also broke a school record for home-court margin of victory (52 points) set just 12 days earlier in a 100-49 victory over St. Mary's.

UST shot 62% from the field (42-of-68), had 13 different players score, had no players with more than 21 minutes, had a 59-9 advantage in bench scoring, and a 37-20 rebounding advantage.

The Toms made 13-of-19 from 3-point range, with Scott making 5-of-6. UST raced to leads of 7-0, 23-7 and 41-13 and led 49-20 at halftime.

Freshman guard Alex Healy had 14 points off the bench, all in the second half. Senior Grant Hennington had a career-high 11 points and five assists, and Tyler Nicolai scored 10 points. B.J. Viau had eight points and five rebounds, and Lonnie Robinson had five steals in 15 minutes.

Tom Conboy had 17 points and Abe Woldeslassie had 15 points for the Scots, who shot 42% from the floor but had 25 turnovers.

The Tommies, who kept a 1 1-2 game lead over second-place Gustavus, play Wednesday night at Bethel then face Gustavus at home Saturday.
