Men's Basketball wins by 19 at St. John's

B.J. Viau had 22 points and eight rebounds as the visiting Tommies pulled away for an 83-64 victory over the host Johnnies in MIAC men's basketball play Saturday night in Collegeville.
The 16th-ranked Tommies (21-4 overall, 17-3 MIAC) outrebounded SJU 34-23, had only 12 turnovers, and shot 53% from the field as they won the championship by three games over runner-up Gustavus (14-6).
Joe Scott had 19 points and Tyler Nicolai scored 17 points for UST, which used a 19-3 run to build a 35-20 halftime lead. The Johnnies (14-11, 11-9) never got closer than five points in the second half.
St. Thomas had an 18-7 advantage in bench scoring and made 20-of-23 foul shots.
The Tommies, who beat SJU for the fourth time in 12 months, are the top seed for the playoffs and will play at home Thursday night in the MIAC semifinals against wither Concordia, Bethel or St. John's. SJU is seeded sixth and will play at third-seed Carleton Monday night.
