St. Thomas seniors Katie McCaffrey and Katie Kremer are among 26 Midwest players named to the College Division Academic All-District V Team sponsored by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
McCaffrey, who has a 3.87 gpa in Math, is among eight named to the first team and will go onto the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
On Wednesday, McCaffrey was named MIAC Player of the Year and was a repeat All-MIAC honoree. She's closing in on 1,200 kills and 500 blocks on her career.
Kremer, who has a 3.71 gpa in Biology, made third team. She earned first-team All-MIAC honors for 2008 and recently broke the conference record for career digs.
Only two other MIAC player were honored -- St. Ben's junior Emma Jaynes made second team, and ustavus senior Bridget Burtzell made third team.
The Volleyball team is generally considered the most difficult sport in which to advance in All-District and All-America voting. There are usually more than 80 nominees in this district in the College Division from Division I, II and NAIA, and only six make first team (eight advanced this year due to ties). About 40% of the nominees have gpas of 3.80 or higher.
