Junior Erin Sprangers scored two second-half goals to let No. 13-ranked St. Thomas secure at least a share of the MIAC championship with Wednesday's 2-0 women's soccer victory over St. Olaf in Northfield.
The Tommies (13-0-4 overall, 8-0-2 MIAC) secured the top seed for next week's playoffs and claimed its first MIAC title since it shared the championship in both 2001 and 2002. UST also ran its unbeaten streak to 18 games dating back to last season.
With a win or tie Saturday at home vs. Gustavus -- or a Carleton tie or loss -- Coach Sheila McGill's team will win the program's first outright MIAC soccer crown since 1987.
Sprangers scored in the 56th minute, assisted by Emily Burgmeier. She added a clinching goal in the 90th minute, assisted by Kirsten Moran. Keeper Amanda Domeier had her ninth shutout of the year and had one save. The Toms had a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal.
