The St. Thomas women's basketball team moved closer to securing a conference playoff spot with Saturday's 55-45 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in MIAC play at UST's Schoenecker Arena.??
The Tommies (13-10 overall, 12-8 MIAC), who improved to 8-2 at home this season, have won six of their last seven games. They ended a seven-game losing streak to the Cobbers, clinched a .500 or better finish and a winning MIAC record. ??
The Toms are alone in fifth place, just one game behind co-third-place teams Carleton and Concordia.??
UST built a 22-17 halftime lead, started the second half with a 7-0 run, and never trailed thereafter. They outrebounded the Cobbers 39-30.??Sophomore center DeJurnett Prioleau had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead a balanced Tommie attack. Freshman guard Sheena Porter-Wrzos added nine points, senior forward Melissa Gotchnik had nine points and sophomore forward Jessica Katch had 10 rebounds.??
Jenna Freudenberg had all 15 of her points in the second half to lead Concordia (15-8, 13-7). Melanie Hageman scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half, and Anna Matetich addded 10 points. The third-place Cobbers, who 32% from the field, have lost two in a row.??
UST shot only 37% from the field but made 6-of-11 from 3-point range, including two in the second half by reserve Anna Swanson that helped hold off Concordia.
