Theisen's record not enough as Football falls 51-28

Junior QB Jesse Nelson threw two touchdown passes and ran for two scores and the visiting Cobbers (5-3 overall, 3-2 MIAC) had no turnovers and rolled up 543 yards of total offense in Saturday's 51-28 football victory over the Tommies (2-5, 2-3).
The Cobbers spoiled Homecoming festivities for the Tommies. A crowd of 3,900 at O'Shaughnessy Stadium watched Concordia score 28 unanswered points to build a 35-7 second-quarter lead.
St. Thomas' senior wideout P.J. Theisen caught three TD passes (54, 23, 20 yards) and broke the school record for career receiving yards. Theisen broke the UST record for career catches last week and Saturday moved past Ryan Davis' career totals of 2,652 yards. Theisen had five catches for 123 yards and now has 182 catches for 2,693 yards and 18 TDs in 38 career games.
Tommie senior RB Jake Casey rushed 10 times for 112 yards and one TD for UST, which compiled 361 yards in the loss. QB David Sauer completed 17-of-34 passes for 179 yards and the three TDs to Theisen, but was sacked twice, had several passes tipped or knocked down and three picked off.
UST in minus-16 in turnover ratio in its five losses and plus seven in its two victories.
Concordia has scored 34 or more points in seven of its eight games and averaged more than 41 ppg. Nelson completed 16 of 25 passes for 248 yards, including TD strikes of 16 and six yards to Jake Krause, Junior RB Cory Johnson rushed 17 times for 152 yards and Nelson rushed for 50 yards. Defensively, Levi DeVries had two pickoffs and Dustin Carlson had one interception for Concordia.
The Tommies travel to Collegeville next Saturday to face unbeaten rival St. John's.
