Men's Hockey falls 4-2 to Amherst

St. Thomas outshot Amherst 43-18 but lost 4-2 in non-conference men's hockey play Saturday in Minneapolis at Mariucci Arena. All six goals came during a six-minute stretch of the third period.
Freshman Dan Smith stopped 41 of 43 shots and four different players scored goals for the No. 13-ranked Jeffs (6-1-1). Junior Zach Sikich stopped 14 of 18 shots for the Tommies (4-5-2), who had a six-game unbeaten streak halted.
St. Thomas' Anthony Blumer scored a power-play goal at 7:10 of the third period for a 1-0 lead. Amherst used unassisted goals by Bradford Craigen at 8:06 and Mike Kreger at 9:13 to take a 2-1 lead.
The Toms' Dustan Lick tied it at 2-2 with a goal at 10:28, but the Jeffs answered with goals by Jon Hill at 11:49 and Sean Ellis at 12:29.
