The St. Thomas softball team pounded 28 hits and scored 18 runs in Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader sweep of UW-Eau Claire. The Tommies won 10-3 and 8-5 on the Blugolds' diamond to run their win streak to seven games.

Nikki Conway and Michelle Wong each had five hits on the day, and teammates Gina Utecht and Mandy Bowlby each had four. Kristi Huegel had a home run and a single. Utecht had four hits and Shannon Moore had three hits in game one.

St. Thomas (15-3) broke to quick leads in each game. Stacy Tamble threw four shutout innings in game one for the victory and pitched two scoreless innings in game two for the save in relief of winner Andrea Sweeney (5 IP, 1ER, 0W, 6K).

Eau Claire (7-12) capitalized on six Tommie errors to cut an 8-0 deficit to 8-5 in the second game.

The Tommies have two MIAC doubleheaders in the next three days -- Thursday at home vs. Augsburg (4 p.m.), and Saturday at Carleton (1 p.m.).
